Minimum Car Weight

F1 sets a minimum weight for the car and driver combined; teams that build lighter than the limit add ballast (weight placed at chosen points on the car) to reach it exactly, since a car right at the limit with weight placed optimally is better than one that's simply lighter and under the limit illegally.
That minimum has climbed steadily as the cars have gained hybrid batteries, bigger safety structures, and larger tyres: the current generation is meaningfully heavier than cars from a decade earlier, even though bare performance has kept climbing too.
A heavier car needs more energy to accelerate and more to slow down, so the weight floor isn't just a chassis-design detail: it interacts with tyre wear, braking, and how much the hybrid system's power actually translates into lap time.
